Weathered Mystery
It just sat on the pavement
Not moving an inch on the line
Not gesturing or smiling
Or making a sound
The paint had been replaced
By someone new to the job
The lettering
Under the yellow color
Was too much a contrast shade
Something wasn’t right
It stood there looking sad
The way it had been left
As if someone had taken it out
But never intended to stay
The wind howled past it
Yet, still, it didn’t move
It was a force to be reckoned with
Under the light of the moon
The reflection it gave
Showed nothing coming to save it
Only a leaf that kept being swayed
Across the pavement
The glass was scratched
One of the windows was stuck
Halfway to the top
Another deemed never to open
It had seen many a pen cap
And many a glare
The noise of traffic
Left its mark
A step inside
Told stories which would be replayed
When the little feet came back
One day
